Our Story — Since 1980
The Cedar Chest began in Clinton, Connecticut, with a simple mission: connect community, style, and sustainability. Our small shoreline consignment shop became a local treasure, known for its warmth, its ever-changing selection, and the possibility of finding something extraordinary on every visit.
In 2015, we expanded to Old Saybrook with a 4,000+ square-foot store on Route 1. New ownership in January 2025 marked the beginning of another chapter, rooted in the same love for our community and the possibilities of consignment.
Today, you can discover women’s and men’s clothing, footwear, jewelry, furniture, art, home décor, and one-of-a-kind finds. Every piece has a story, and every visit is a chance to find its next chapter.
The Heart of What We Do
The Cedar Chest has always been about more than great finds at great prices. It is about people: our consignors, our shoppers, our team, and the community we share.
Consignment gives everyone something to celebrate. A consignor earns money from belongings they no longer need. A shopper discovers a special piece at an accessible price. - A dedicated women’s fashion floor with a curated, ever-changing selection
- The Cedar Cave Men’s Department, devoted to men’s fashion
- Cedar Chest Children’s and Maternity, full of discovery
- A furniture annex for people who love creating a home
- The House of Ruben’s Art Gallery, a department of the Cedar Chest, celebrating local and regional artists
- A café where you can pause for a cappuccino while you browse
Beyond Old Saybrook, the long-term dream is a network of Cedar Chest locations along the East Coast, each carrying the same family-first spirit that began on the Connecticut shoreline in 1980. These are possibilities we are working toward, shaped by the people who make this store special.
