Where The Cedar Chest Is Going

Where The Cedar Chest Is Going

I've never said this publicly before. But it's time you knew.

Hey — it's Nick. And I want to let you in on something I've been holding close to my heart for a while now. Something that gets me out of bed every morning, that drives every decision we make at The Cedar Chest, and that I believe — truly believe — is going to change the way people think about consignment shopping forever.

But first, let me take you back to where it all started.

1980. Clinton, Connecticut.

A small but bold consignment shop opens its doors with a simple mission: connect community, style, and sustainability. It becomes a local treasure almost immediately — known for its ever-changing selection, its warmth, and the feeling that every visit might turn up something extraordinary.

In 2015, The Cedar Chest expands to Old Saybrook, opening a 4,000+ sq. ft. flagship store on Route 1. And in January 2025, under passionate new ownership, a new chapter begins.

That's where I come in.

The Heart of What We Do

The Cedar Chest has always been about more than great finds at great prices. It's about people. It's about community. It's about the simple, beautiful idea that when we help each other — consignors, shoppers, and our team — everybody wins.

Think about it: a consignor earns money from something they no longer need. A shopper finds an incredible piece at a fraction of retail. A beautiful item gets a second life instead of ending up in a landfill. And together, we build something stronger than any of us could alone.

That's not just a business model. That's a movement.

The Big Dream

Now here's the part I've never said out loud before. The Cedar Chest I see in my heart — the one I'm working toward every single day — is something much bigger than what you see today.

Imagine pulling up to a building that feels like an adventure before you even walk in. Inside: a modern farmhouse destination where every corner holds something exciting to discover.

  • A dedicated women's fashion floor — curated, beautiful, ever-changing
  • A men's department we call The Cedar Cave
  • A children's section full of wonder
  • A furniture annex for the home lovers
  • An art gallery celebrating local and regional artists
  • And yes — a café where you can sip a cappuccino while you browse

That's the dream for Old Saybrook. And beyond that? A network of Cedar Chest locations up and down the East Coast — all connected, all carrying the same family-first spirit that started right here on the Connecticut shoreline in 1980.

Why I'm Telling You This
