FALL INTAKE HAS ARRIVED — WHAT TO BRING & WHAT TO EXPECT
Share
There's a particular kind of magic that arrives with the turning of September — that unmistakable shift when summer finally exhales and something richer, warmer, and more beautiful begins to take hold.
You know the feeling. By October, the morning air carries a real crispness. The light shifts to that golden, honeyed glow that makes everything look like it belongs in a painting. The leaves begin their slow, gorgeous transformation into amber, rust, and burgundy that makes New England one of the most breathtaking places on earth to be in the fall.
It's the season of cozy layers, warm textures, and that deeply satisfying feeling of pulling on a beautiful sweater for the first time. Of wrapping yourself in a scarf that feels like a hug. Of stepping out in boots that click just right on the sidewalk.
At The Cedar Chest, fall is one of our favorite times of year — and while the leaves won't start turning for another month or two, we believe in getting a head start. That's why Fall Intake is officially open as of today, August 1st, 2026. We open intake early so that by the time those crisp September and October days arrive, our floor is stocked and ready with the best fall pieces the shoreline has to offer.
What We're Looking For This Fall
The key word for fall intake is transitional. New England fall days have a rhythm all their own — cool and crisp in the morning, warm at midday, and back to that lovely chill by evening. The pieces we're looking for should work beautifully across all of those moments: lightweight enough for a warm afternoon, but layerable enough to carry you through a cool morning or a breezy evening on the shoreline.
Think light-to-medium weight fabrics and versatile silhouettes — not heavy winter pieces. If you have thick wool coats, heavy parkas, or bulky cold-weather gear, hold onto those for Winter Intake — they'll have their moment soon enough. For now, we're focused on the beautiful in-between.
Here's a look at the styles and categories we're excited to receive:
🧥 Lightweight Outerwear & Layers
Blazers, trench coats, lightweight structured jackets, denim jackets, and shirt-weight overshirts are exactly what we're looking for. Think layers you can throw on in the morning and tie around your waist by noon. Please hold heavy wool coats and parkas for Winter Intake.
🧶 Light Knitwear & Sweaters
Lightweight cashmere, fine merino, thin turtlenecks, and open-weave cardigans are perfect for fall. Rich jewel tones, classic neutrals, and timeless patterns like Fair Isle or cable knit are always welcome. Save the chunky, heavy-weight knits for winter.
👖 Transitional Bottoms
Tailored trousers, dark-wash denim, corduroy, and ponte pants are all excellent fall staples. We're looking for well-maintained pieces in current silhouettes that pair easily with layers.
👗 Dresses & Skirts
Midi and maxi lengths in transitional fabrics — light suede, soft florals, and medium-weight blends — are always a hit. Wrap dresses, shirt dresses, and A-line skirts in warm tones photograph beautifully and sell quickly.
👢 Footwear
Boots are everything in fall. Ankle boots, knee-highs, block heels, and loafers in leather or suede are top sellers. Please ensure footwear is clean and in excellent condition.
👜 Handbags & Accessories
Structured bags, leather totes, crossbodies, and lightweight scarves are always in demand. Fall is also a wonderful time to bring in quality jewelry with warm metals and rich stones.
🏡 Home Décor
Don't forget our home section! We love receiving cozy, curated home pieces for fall — think warm-toned textiles, quality candle holders, decorative accents, and anything that brings that autumnal warmth into a living space.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Summer consignments are no longer being accepted. As we transition fully into fall, we're focusing exclusively on seasonal pieces that reflect the cooler months ahead. If you have summer items, hold onto them — we'll be opening summer intake again before you know it.
Heavy winter pieces are not yet being accepted. Thick wool coats, heavy parkas, and bulky cold-weather items are best saved for Winter Intake, which will be coming up. We want every piece on our floor to feel seasonally right for our shoppers.
As always, we ask that all items be freshly laundered or dry cleaned, free of damage, and reflective of current styles. The better condition your pieces arrive in, the faster they'll find their next home.
Not sure if something is right for us? When in doubt, bring it in — we're always happy to take a look and chat with you about your pieces.
